Batik is a traditional South East Asian textile craft. It is also an expressive medium for art making. Our programs are safe and systematic approach to introduce participants to the cultural aspect of batik and be guided on using traditional tools for waxing, applying dyes, and many other processes involved to produce an authentic batik art.

Batik Painting – Cultural Art Experience

A safe and systematic introduction to the art of traditional batik painting.
No pre-requisite skills required. Learn to handle the tjanting for waxing and basic dye painting techniques. A concise process producing a genuine batik art in 2-hours. All materials provided.

Not recommended for children below 9 years old as the process involves hot wax. Adults bringing children do so at their sole discretion and shall be held responsible for their child’s action as this is a low supervision activity meant for adults in a working artist studio. 

Group Batik Workshop (Team Building)

Group art activities ideal for tour groups, corporate retreat or team building activity.
Programmes are available for 2 or 3 hours engagement. Participants get to create bigger art work for the longer duration.

Our gallery can accomodate 50 workshop participants, while our studio has a capacity 30 pax.

Community Batik

The Community Batik Project is a highly engaging group activity to experience our South East Asian cultural heritage while creating a collective work of art. Popular at public events and appropriate for corporate team-bonding sessions. The length and duration can vary according to your requirements. Usually, the completed artwork are proudly installed at the work-place or public areas. The package involves on-the-spot freestyle waxing by artist, facilitation of activity, all materials involved, post-production for removal of wax and colour fixing. The finished cloth will be delivered unframed.

Package engagement is for 3 meter cloth over 3 hours engagement
The length of fabric can be extended for larger group.
You may opt for pre-waxed also design service.

Batik Painting Kit

Batik Painting Kit is a set of pre-waxed cloth measuring 20x20cm mounted on a paper stretcher. Samples can be viewed on our Batik.SG website. The set is individually packed, consisting of a pre-waxed cloth, paint brush, plastic palette and three colour dyes (red, blue, yellow). This makes a good gift and is practical for DIY activity. Each pre-waxed batik cost $5
Batik painting kit cost $12
Facilitator $100 per hour/each.  

We provide facilitators to manage events. Material costs included. One facilitator is for engaging not more than 20 persons simultaneously. More facilitators are required for bigger engagements. Should you wish to manage the session yourself, you can buy materials separately, eg. batik dyes at $6 per 120 ml (can colour up to 30 pieces), palettes and brushes from us.

Batik Demonstration

A showcase of batik painting for cultural theme event. An artist set-up with artefacts and samples to talk about batik painting,answer questions and guide participants in some hands-on experience of batik making.

School Art Enrichment Programme (NAC/AEP)

We offer batik painting programmes in schools. Our programmes are endorsed by the National Arts Council of Singapore; Arts Education Programme (NAC-AEP) and are eligible for the 50% Tote Board Arts Grant Subsidy.

We have varied programmes for different levels from primary to secondary schools as well as tertiary institution. Students will be introduced to the art and craft of batik painting through hands-on experience and gradually learn to use traditional tools such as the ‘tjanting’ to create authentic batik paintings with wax resist technique. Lesson extend to advance batiking techniques and how to make fabrics colourfast.
