What the Exhibition is About
The series serves as a “tribute to Singapore’s rich cultural blend.” Kamal Dollah is known for pushing the boundaries of traditional batik (a wax-resist dyeing technique) by merging it with mixed media and whimsical narratives. - Themes of Identity: The works question our perceptions of origin and culture, reflecting on how different ethnic influences in Singapore overlap and fuse together.
- Innovation of Tradition: While he uses classical batik symbols, Dollah applies masterful innovation and brilliant, modern colors to make the medium resonate with today’s audience.
- Whimsical Narrative: The pieces often feature a playful, lighthearted tone to explore complex topics like heritage and social confluence.
