Collaborative Art: Cold Wax Batik Banners for National Day

Done by primary five students over three sessions of one hour. Total engagement of just three hours to produce this awesome artwork that was put on display just in time for Singapore’s 57th National Day celebration.

Washed and treated for colour fastness to ensure that colour will not run with the rain or fade with the sun.
Students transfer the design they created after a session introducing tradition of wearing batik in South East Asian culture and batik techniques in Indonesia and Malaysia. They apply the cold wax method for safety in school.
Students paint the big mural with dye collaboratively.
Cloth banner is brought back to the studio to be chemically treated before washing away the wax.
The banner is then sewn for installation is viewable from both sides and id waterproof.
