We hosted this retreat session for a group of Malay language teachers from various schools in the western part of Singapore to make a batik painting tote bag. They were briefed on the different types of batik and how to identify them before proceeding to a hands-on experience making authentic batik using traditional tjanting tool and hot wax.
The cold wax method is much easier but they were adventurous and opted for the real deal.
All of them were doing this for the first time and was thrilled at the final product that is washable and will save them from using plastic bags when shopping.
